Bat Season in Austin, Texas

Last month I left New York City and headed south to Austin for a week long business trip. Even though I was there on business, I did manage to see a few things, eat BBQ and determine the city is worth a future visit. Of the most interesting that I explored was definitely the Congress Bridge Bats.

My co-workers and I took the Lone Star Riverboat Bat cruise where we had dinner and then waited near the bridge for the “bat show”. Every day from March until November 1.5 million bats emerge from underneath the bridge and spiral into the night sky.

I’m not going to lie, originally I wasn’t over joyed with going to see these bats but I really had no clue what to expect. It was actually an extremely cool experience and you wouldn’t believe the amount of bats that stream through the sky. It is like something out of a Sci-Fi movie. The photo I took doesn’t do them justice!

If you’re headed to Austin you don’t want to miss it.

Sincerely, Tish
