Bat Season in Austin, Texas

Last month I left New York City and headed south to Austin, Texas for a week long business trip. Even though I was there for work, I managed to see a few things, eat BBQ and explore The Congress Bridge which is home to many local bats.

My co-workers and I took the Lone Star Riverboat Bat cruise where we had dinner and then waited near the bridge for what they call ” the bat show”. Every day from March until November 1.5 million bats emerge from underneath the bridge and spiral into the night sky.

As I had no idea what to expect, I originally wasn’t over joyed with going to see these bats but it turned out to be a such a neat experience. I couldn’t believe the amount of bats that streamed through the sky. It was like something out of a Sci-Fi movie. The photo I took just doesn’t do them justice. You have to see it for yourself!

If you’re headed to Austin you don’t want to miss this.

Sincerely, Tish
