Over this past summer cycling has become a favorite activity of mine. It’s proven that cycling for just 30 minutes a day can not only improve your cardiovascular activity but help lower your blood pressure and shed those few extra pounds!
Here’s my top 5 reasons for why I started biking:
1. Diverse workout atmosphere
Biking is a great activity that can be done on the road, the woods, a trail, the gym or even at home! For me, being able to throw the bike on the car and take it different locations made this form of exercise more exciting and less boring as compared to other forms of cardio!
2. Fun form of cardio
Biking is mindless. I don’t really realize I’m exercising because I’m enjoying the scenery or flipping on the t.v at the gym! It’s a fun activity that allows my mind to stay distracted from the workout.
3. Easy Calorie burner
Biking is a great calorie burner! I love the fact that I can be on the bike for an hour and not even realize how many calories I’ve burned!
4. Easier on your joints
Cycling is known to be easier on your joints than running is. I wanted something different and less strenuous on my knees. If your an avid runner, cycling might be a good way to switch it up and could even help reduce the chances of developing arthrosis.
5. Mental health
Cycling is great for your mental health! It reduces stress levels and decreases anxiety.
If you’re looking for a fun and new way to fit cardio into your day, think about investing in a bike or cycling at the gym!

Maybe I need to try biking. These are some great pros to biking. I live in New Orleans so the weather is almost always warm. Thanks for sharing.
I would love to be in a warm location so I could bike year round. I’m in Pittsburgh so it’s a little colder here 🥶!
I started running this past summer to increase the amount of cardio I did, but hadn’t considered biking. For all the reasons you mentioned, it may be a much better alternative because I’ve heard from long time runners about some of the issues running caused over time. Thank you for the reminder and food for thought.
You are welcome! I still love running but I think biking is a great alternative to mix it up and save those joints! (:
Being easier on your joints is so key! So much easier than running and walking for some.
Very much so!!
Called by to leave my thanks for your recent decision to follow Learning from Dogs. Thank you!
Reading this from the spinning room at my Y. I’m learning to read and ride until it warms up enough to ride outside. Great reasons, well crafted and concise. Nicely done.
I love that ! Glad you enjoyed! Enjoy your workout (:
Great post. One of my goals for the new year is to get a decent bicycle, well two actually so my husband and I can go for bike rides this summer. These are the five reasons I also enjoy walking.
Thank you! I think that’s a great idea and would make for a good activity for you and your husband !
